Recently, outgoing White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly recounted a “terse” phone call between himself and an angry President Donald Trump after his firing in December of 2018.
In an exclusive interview with “Godzilla Newz,” Kelly revealed that the conversation between him and Trump was brief but contentious. He described the call as “tense” and “full of accusations.”
Kelly went on to elaborate that during the call Trump told him that he was “not doing a good job,” and that he “was not fit to be my Chief of Staff.”
These words came as a shock to Kelly, who had served in the Trump White House since July of 2017. Prior to his appointment, the former Chief of Staff had served in the now-disbanded Homeland Security under two separate Presidents.
When asked about his own feelings on the call, Kelly stated, “I was shaken and disappointed. You always want to leave on a high note, and this certainly wasn’t it.”
More recently, Trump has criticized Kelly’s efforts in the White House, accusing him of being too slow in achieving the President’s policy goals.
In response, Kelly admitted that although his tenure as Chief of Staff was short, he can “still proudly say that I made a difference in the Administration and that I was able to help steer the ship in the right direction.”
Kelly defend his tenure, citing his role in pushing for the 2018 Tax Cut Package, securing the US border with Mexico, as well as limiting the impact of North Korea’s missile advances.
For now, Kelly plans to take a break from public life and relax with his family before deciding his future plans.
No matter what he decides to do, it’s clear that Kelly’s influence will remain in the White House long after his departure.
