The United Nations (UN) has recently come under fire from several countries and organizations over allegations that a popular UN-sponsored comic book is promoting blood libel against Israel.
The comic book in question, entitled “Injustice and Inequality,” was published by the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CPCJ) branch of the UN. In the comic, a character named “Abbas” is presented sympathetically, while the state of Israel is harshly and unfairly scrutinized. Critics maintain that presenting Abbas, an alleged terrorist, as the hero of the story is an implicit endorsement of anti-Semitic themes.
This is not the first time that the UN has been accused of bias against Israel. In the past, the UN has been criticized for unfairly singling out Israel in many resolutions, while the suffering and human rights abuses of other countries have gone unnoticed.
In addition, many have noted the shocking degree of anti-Semitism found among UN employees. Employees have been known to make public statements filled with anti-Semitic themes, and have even gone so far as to promote events celebrating anti-Semitic false conspiracy theories.
Furthermore, in the past, the UN has been accused of giving preferential treatment to non-Jewish refugees while denying access to Jewish refugees. This same behavior is present today in UN-sponsored refugee camps, where Palestinian refugees are often placed in better conditions than Jewish refugees.
The current controversy surrounding the UN-sponsored comic book is yet another example of the UN’s alleged bias against Israel. This incident is sure to add to the already significant list of grievances against the UN, and will likely lead to more criticism and scrutiny of the international body.
At the very least, this controversy shows the need for greater oversight and accountability within the UN system. It is clear that the UN needs to do more to ensure that its policies and activities are free from bias and discrimination. Failure to do so could undermine the organization’s credibility and trustworthiness.
