The guerrilla-style political action committee (PAC) supporting the re-election of Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has recently fired their CEO amid reports of internal turmoil.
This is yet another speed bump during the reelection campaign team’s push to maintain the governor’s seat. A major contributing factor to this firing is due to political and personal disagreements among members of the governor’s team, particularly in regards to fundraising operations.
The dismissed CEO, Marcus Anways, had served as director of the pro-DeSantis PAC since 2018. He had helped assemble a roster of over fifty paid employees in order to effectively organize the PAC’s campaign-related activities.
This abrupt termination of the CEO took many by surprise; and it is still unclear as to what catalyst triggered this decision to fire him. However, some have suggested that there had been a series of policy disagreements between Anways and the rest of the team, which contributed heavily to this situation.
Interestingly enough, some sources have vaguely pointed out that Anways had previously hinted at a possible breakaway from the PAC in recent weeks. This could imply that he had nonpartisan and uncontrollable aspirations in mind, which did not coordinate with that of the DeSantis team.
No official statement has been released regarding these reports, yet many speculate that this incident has served as a major distraction from DeSantis’ primary goal of reelection. This direct interruption of business is not typical, especially for a PAC that boasts great financial capital and tremendous supporters.
As such, the episodic firing of the CEO appears to be a primary source of tension and concern for the DeSantis camp. Having experienced a sudden deletion of a major leader, the team must now rethink its strategic operations and step up their game to ensure the governor’s success in November.
