Tesla, Inc. recently announced the recall of thousands of vehicles due to faulty doors that could potentially open during an accident.
The recall affects as many as 120000 Model S and Model X vehicles produced between 2012 and 2018. According to Tesla, the issue was discovered after several customer complaints about their doors opening during mild to moderate collision.
In a statement, Tesla said that “after further investigative work to assess the cause, Tesla discovered a power connector to the latch that caused the problem.” The company also said that the faulty power connector could potentially corrode over time, leading to a higher failure rate in certain conditions such as high humidity areas.
Tesla has since begun informing affected customers of the recall. They’re also offering to replace the power connector in question for free at a local service center. The company has urged customers to have the power connector replaced as soon as possible in order to prevent the doors from opening during a crash.
While the issue isn’t widely considered to be a safety hazard, it’s still a serious one. It could potentially cause serious injury or worse if the doors open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion.
Tesla has earned a reputation for quality vehicles and customer service, but this recall highlights the importance of proper maintenance and timely repairs. If you own a Tesla Model S or Model X, make sure to contact your local service center and have the power connector replaced to ensure the safety of yourself and your passengers.
