As newly elected President Joe Biden continues to fill out his cabinet and shape his legislative agenda, one of the most important roles he’s filled are the federal judges appointed to the country’s courts. Recently, the Senate confirmed 15 of Biden’s picks to serve in circuit and district courts across 11 states. It’s an impressive group of individuals, chosen for their expertise, backgrounds, and drive to push forward Biden’s ambitious agenda.
The most notable of Biden’s newly confirmed judges is Ketanji Brown Jackson, who will now be a circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She’s the first Black woman to ever serve on this court, and only the second African American to ever do so. Jackson has a wealth of judicial experience, and was previously a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Another notable judge on this list is Luis Felipe Restrepo, who will be a circuit judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He’s the first judge of Puerto Rican descent to serve in any federal court of appeals. Restrepo is an immigrant himself, and served as a federal public defender for over a decade.
Also warranted a mention is Chawaimage Ene Gbeanu, who will now serve as a district judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He was previously an assistant attorney general in Washington, where he worked diligently to ensure the State’s laws were followed and upheld. His comprehensive experience in both law and politics make him a strong addition to the judiciary.
These three individuals are just a few of the 15 judges that the Senate confirmed for Biden. With their diverse backgrounds and expertise, they will all bring a wealth of knowledge to their respective courts while helping advance the President’s agenda.
