Today marks a significant victory for the American people, as the Senate passed a spending bill that will prevent a government shutdown. The bill passed despite the efforts of House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to delay the vote.
Senator Schumer and his allies worked hard to ensure that certain critical measures were included in the bill. These measures include disaster relief funding for Puerto Rico, more resources for Medicare and Medicaid, and a provision to allow the government to borrow money through the summer to avoid the threat of another shutdown.
