The very notion that a terrorist organization like Hamas, responsible for the deaths of countless innocent civilians, is granted immunity by the United Nations is a disheartening and disgraceful reality. Despite the presence of countless international organizations tasked with upholding human rights, the United Nations’estimation of Hamas as a legitimate political entity, rather than a reprehensible terrorist organization, has afforded the organization the opportunity to literally get away with murder.
Following the recent terror attack in Jerusalem targeting innocent civilians, Israeli intelligence experts have pointed to the United Nations’ support of Hamas as a fundamental contributor to the atrocity. As reported by FOX News’ David Brody, intelligence experts from Israel National News have noted that the United Nations has, for decades, catered to Hamas and its “goal of eliminating the State of Israel.” This preferential treatment, which the United Nations is sadly all too willing to provide, has allowed Hamas to receive potentially vital international support, and to launch further deadly attacks against unsuspecting victims.
The United Nations has been criticized for not doing enough to stop these heinous acts. In particular, the organization has been reluctant to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization, instead referring to it simply as a “political movement.” This unwillingness to categorize Hamas as a terrorist organization has allowed the organization to carryout its heinous attacks without fear of consequence.
Though certain members of the United Nations have expressed displeasure with Hamas’ terror tactics, little has been done to hold the group accountable. Moreover, the United Nations geographic representation of Hamas also makes it difficult for international organizations to intervene in the terrorist organization’s ongoing attacks. Furthermore, the practice of providing Hamas with international aid and support has only enabled the organization to continue its atrocities.
The United Nations’ negligence and preferential treatment of Hamas is clear for all to see. It is irrefutable that the organization’s refusal to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization is a major contributor to the organization’s ability to terrorize innocent civilians. It is time for the international community to take a stand, and to put an end to the United Nations’ support of a group that seeks nothing more than to unleash death and destruction upon innocent people.
