America’s ultra-progressive frontrunner in Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district, Dean Phillips, recently announced he has secured two prominent political operatives who previously worked for Bernie Sanders’ and Andrew Yang’s presidential campaigns. The move signals he has the intention to be a national leader in the progressive movement.
Rob Engel, former national political director for Yang’s 2020 presidential campaign, is now the campaign manager for Phillips’ congressional race. He will be joined by Shannon Jackson, former deputy campaign manager for Sanders. She will be in charge of the day-to-day running of Phillips’ field and organizational operations.
The team has been revered across the progressive movement for their successful efforts in mobilizing voters and expanding state-level progressive movements. From Sanders’ strong performance in the 2016 presidential primary race, to Yang’s unprecedented fundraising efforts nationwide, both Engel and Jackson are highly experienced operatives with remarkable track records.
Phillips has publicly stated that his campaign is “truly humbled and grateful” to have both Engel and Jackson on board. He also recognized the success they’ve had in mobilizing voters across the country and said he was “excited to have them on our team to help take our fight to Washington and organize progressives everywhere.”
This move by Phillips is yet another indication of his commitment to the progressive movement and his desire to be a leader in Washington. His campaign is now equipped with two of the most experienced progressive strategists in the country, making it difficult for Phillips’ opponents to gain any traction in the race.
With an August primary only 3 months away, Phillips’ campaign is sure to keep trending in the right direction as they look to carry their message to the citizens of Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district.
