In recent years there has been an ongoing battle in the United States over the issue of abortion rights. With efforts to expand both access to and the right to receive abortions, both sides of the issue have been heavily represented. Nonetheless, a prominent pro-life leader maintains a level of optimism.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the United States’ pro-life action organization Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List, recently noted that the ballot initiatives expanding abortion access do not weaken the effort of those who hold pro-life values. Dannenfelser said in a statement that the movement “did not start nor will it end at the ballot box.”
The pro-life organization head also emphasized that despite the increased availability of procedures such as those that involve the termination of pregnancies, there are still a number of steps that the pro-life movement can take to oppose the current trend. These steps include more effective engagement with legislators and local governments to enact laws that limit the availability of abortions, as well as continuing to educate the public about the risks associated with receiving abortions.
Dannenfelser noted that many states still have laws in place that serve to protect human life and will continue to provide a layer of protection for those who are unborn regardless of the recent voter-approved initiatives.
Despite the current uphill battle, Dannenfelser and her organization remain optimistic of their ability to make a difference in the nationwide debate. In a recent RNS article, Dannenfelser declared that the pro-life movement “will continue to advance policies that promote life, respect the conscience of taxpayers, weather the attack of any extreme agendas, and fight for the rights of unborn children.”
The organization Susan B. Anthony List will continue to advocate for life and defend the rights of the unborn despite the utmost strenuous and controversial attempts to expand abortion access. With their steadfast commitment to this cause, Dannenfelser and her organization SBA are poised to make great strides in the pro-life movement.
