With less than two months to go until the first votes are cast in the 2020 Presidential Election, President Donald Trump commands a commanding lead over his challengers as the field of Republican hopefuls continues to diminish.
The primary has not been an easy path for the President; he has been faced with a number of challengers who have managed to maintain enough support to remain in the running this far into the process. However, Trump’s consistent support from the GOP base has helped propel him to the top of the pack with the rest of the contenders trailing far behind.
The latest polling from Real Clear Politics shows Trump maintaining a significant lead over his main competitor, former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld. Trump currently enjoys a 30 point lead over Governor Weld, leading him 44 to 14 percent in the polls.
In terms of the entire GOP field, Trump enjoys an even greater lead. While Weld has managed to pull together some support, the rest of the candidates have struggled to gain traction. Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford polling at just 1 percent, while current Rep. Joe Walsh and former Rep. Joe Walsh are polling in the single digits.
This lack of support for the other primary candidates is reflective of the overall GOP primary process, which has seen the political establishment coalesce around Trump since the beginning. Meanwhile, those on the right who have dared to challenge the President have found their messages mostly falling on deaf ears.
So, with nine weeks until the first votes are cast, Trump appears poised to secure the nomination once again. Given his consistent support from the base and the lack of a strong establishment challenger, it looks like Trump will be cruising to a comfortable victory this November.
