Nearly 5 million blenders have been recalled by leading retailers Costco, Target, and Walmart due to significant fire and laceration risks. The blenders in question, sold between March 2018 and April 2021, were manufactured by Li livest Products LLC in Newnan, Georgia, and distributed by Tristar Products of Fairfield, New Jersey.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have issued a voluntary recall on these particular blenders due to the report of 11 incidents where the blenders reportedly caught fire from overheating or emitted smoke, with potentially dangerous situations due to how the blenders were designed and constructed. There have also been several reports of people sustaining lacerations from contact with the blade assembly during cleaning or use, although thankfully it has not yet been reported to have caused any further injury or harm.
The recalled blenders have been sold under three brand names:
* Power AirFryer Oven 6 Qt
* Copper Chef 6 Qt
* Brava 6 Qt
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blenders and contact Tristar to arrange for a full refund. The serial numbers and date codes for the blenders can be found on the bottom of each unit, and consumers should note that only blenders with particular serial numbers and date codes are affected by the recall.
It’s important to remember that these recalled blenders are not just designed for regular kitchen use, but can also be used for commercial grade cooking and baking operations. As such, they pose a real risk of fire and laceration if not used in compliance with the given manufacturer instructions.
The Li livest Products recall is yet another example of why it’s important to remain aware of product recalls. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers should be transparent about any potential safety hazards, as well as the actions taken to recall the product. The safety of customers comes before profits, and manufacturers should take the necessary steps to ensure the highest levels of consumer safety.
